Finish #3 for 2006

This is Tea Time by Mill Hill from their Spring Simple Treasures series. It will be mounted on the little cardboard box that came with it but not until after I paint the box since it is just cardboard colored. I started this little guy so long ago but I know it was after 1999. When I ordered it, it came with the little box crushed. I contacted the LNS and she let me keep the damaged one and sent me a new one. Well, in moving it all over (to keep the perforated paper flat I didn't store it with all my others.) I ended up losing the beads so the second kit came in handy.

Wanna See my favorite band?

Does anyone remember Creed? Well, I love the lead guitarist. Not only is he eye candy but he plays outstanding. Creed broke up a couple of years ago, they brought back the bass player, recruited a new lead singer and renamed themselves Alter Bridge. I have been to both of their Philly concerts and yes, even at the ripe old age of 32 I was standing right up front on the left watching Mark Tremonti play every note. I even waited out back after both concerts to get autographs and signatures. The first time I couldn't stay long enough to see Mark come out but the second time I waited over 45 mins in the cold and having to pee until I got this pic.

Right now they have stopped touring (after almost 2yr straight) and they are starting to record a new album. You can bet I'll be there again as soon as they come thru town!

Are you ready for another "Out of the Mouth of Babes"?

Another priceless story popped into my mind. hmmmmmm....how do I start this one??? Ok, Alex was about 3 years old. Anyone that has had a 3yo son knows that they tend to touch themselves ALOT!!!! Well, let's just say that my two sons did enough for them and then if anyone didn't touch themselves enough then don't worry cause my sons probably touched themselves enough to make up the national average. Most times you ask if they have to pee. At the age of three they aren't always making it to the bathroom in time if playing or watching a "must see" show like Barney or Telly Tubbies UGH.

One particular night I'm just at the bottom of the steps and notice that my son Alex was standing in front of the TV and holding himself. Naturally, I tell him to go to the bathroom. Apparently, the show was better and he didn't hear me so I tell him again. He then tells me that he doesn't have to go. So I tell him to get his hands off of himself then. (and how many times a day does this scenario play out? I lost count).

Well, not thinking about it anymore, 2 minutes later he tells me and I quote:

"Mom, you know what I was holding myself?"

Why?

"Cause it's so looooonnnggg"

Well, I almost fell out of the chair! I had to turn around and stiffle the whooping laughter that was coming from somewhere in my intestines. What do you say to that? I said "O.K." ROFLMAO!

The picture in my head you ask? Oh God, 3 years old and I can already see him and the preschoolers lined up in the bathroom during break and measuring up like the big boys. I'm thinking, I know times have changed but COME ON!!!!!!

So my advice on something like that? Walk away and stiffle the laughter in a towel in the next room! You don't want to egg them on LOL

Second Finish for 2006

This is Sweet Honey by Shepherd's Bush, it was a free chart. I started this little one about 5 years ago. Had some fits with frogging and stuffed it to the bottom of the projects piles. The fabric is some raw linen that I hand dyed with kool aid. It still needs the bee charm but I can't find the little bugger right now so this scan will have to do.

My thoughts on backstitching (and a finish)

I normally dread the backstitching. When I'm finished stiching a piece I want to be finished not have to put a bunch of lines in it. On the other hand when I finish the backstitching and frenchknots etc I'm always amazed how it brings the details to life.

I just finished Candy Cane Penguin by Dimensions/Daydream. It was a kit that came with the mat, glass, cardboard and clips so it was really easy to have it ready to use when I was finished all of the stitching. Here you can see what I mean about the backstitching.

What Mythical Creature are you?

You scored as Mermaid. Mermaid: Mermaids are also known as Sirens. These creatures were beautiful women who tricked sailors into becoming completely entranced by their haunting voices and found death soon after. Not all stories of Mermaids are about gentle loving sea people. They are mystical, magical, and extremely dangerous. They have a way about them that brings anyone they are around to seem enchanted. They are very mysterious creatures and to meet one... Would mean certain Death. Let the song of the Sea fill your soul, for you are a Mermaid.

What Mythological Creature are you? (Cool Pics!)

Gotta love the things that come out of kids mouths!

Here is just another story to add to my book if I ever write one.

I have only had a car for the past 3 yrs. Before that I was taking public transportation. During the summer you hope to sit next to the person that either atleast took a shower during that month or was liberal with the deodorant. During the holidays you don't want to get on with your 3yo kid because something like this can happen.

One Christmas shopping holiday I was coming home from center city with my friend Debbie, my step daughter Sam and my daughter Gina that was then about 3. Needless to say the bus was packed and I had bags and she was standing up in the seat next to me holding on to the back and having a good time while I was hoping the baby coach didn't unfold in the middle of the aisle and take out someone shin. Debbie was standing near me and Sam was a few seats away. I'm talking to Debbie when all of a sudden my daughter says real loud "Mommy, that guy has a spider on his chin!" Well I turn around to see what she is talking about and sitting right behind us is this little Asian man with a mole the size of a dime on his chin and about 6 hairs sticking out of it. Stiffling the hysterical laughter I tell her in a short tone. "That isn't a spider now turn around and sit down." Well, before she sits she pipes up "Well, what is it?" By this time I'm really trying hard not to laugh and the guy is looking at me and slowly puts his finger over his mole. What do you say to that? I know the first thing that came to mind was to tell the guy the least he could do was pluck the suckers and maybe he would scare the small children but the sheepish grin he gave was enough.

My Stitching Plan

I am trying to make sure that I finish more projects. About 3 years ago I see that I had a lot of finishes but over the past 3 years it has declined A LOT. I only finished about 6 projects last year and none were too big. Now, don't get me wrong. I have started plenty LOL. I have belonged to Stitch A Longs (SALs) for awhile but haven't really stuck to them. This year I have joined a few more in hopes to finish some of these projects so the guilt levels go down when I start another project. Here is the schedule:

Sunday - UFO SAL
No Place Like Home by Mary Engelbreit
Teatime - Mill Hill
Sweet Honey - Shepherds Bush freebie

Monday - Charts & Charms SAL
Animal Magnetism - Dimensions

Tuesday - Angel SAL
Midsummer Nights Fairy by Mirabilia (I know it is a fairy but it is close enough)
Ice Angel by Lavender & Lace

Wednesday - Stitching In The Dark SAL
Eagle In Moonlight - Dimensions Sunset kit
Screaming Daffy - Leisure Arts

Any Day - Teresa Wentzler SAL
Tempest In Teacup - TW freebie

For the past week I have been keeping ok with the plan. Worked on Animal Magnetism, Eagle in Moonlight and No Place Like Home.

You can see my progress pics at these two links:

UFO WIP- http://tinyurl.com/b6kkz

WIP - http://tinyurl.com/dh76x

Lets hope this plan works. As I finish projects I have more to take their places so that will not be a problem. I am also trying to finish crocheting Gina's blanket and have been putting a few stitches here and there during the week. And of course have a bunch of crochet things that I want to do also. I tend to get a crochet bug when it is cold. Especially blankets since they keep me warm when I'm working on it.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all! The pic above are of my daughter marching in the Mummers Parade here in Philly, PA. For those who may have never heard of this parade it is very popular and pretty well know to most in our area. It was started about 104 years ago and consists of originally men dressing up and dancing with string bands. Then they added floats and elaborate costumes with sequins, shiney fabrics, feathers and anything else to make fantastic scenery. They march thru just about half of the city and end up in my neighborhood. The official parade is never as much fun as the unofficial one that goes on down on second street in South Philly. There are tons of people, lots of booze, and they perform for us once they get there. Lots of wishing Happy New Year also kissing and hugging people you don't know to wish them a great year. The second pic above is my husband pointing out my daughter. We watched for her on t.v. so I took pics of it to show it all off. Maybe you'll see me there next year! They asked me to join but I think I would rather stay behind the scenes and help with the costumes and floats. I'm much better with a hot glue gun and sewing needle than I am strutting in the freezing cold.

You can read more about the mummers here: http://www.mummers.com/ if you look you will see that in the fancies division Golden Sunrise won.....that is the group my daughter was in WooHoo. I will also tell you that Fralinger and Quaker City are my two favorite stringbands and they first and second. In the Fancy Brigade the Vikings won and when I tell you they give a great show WOW! I watched them on t.v. (they don't march outside anymore because of the great cost in the costumes and the money won doesn't cover the cost, most of us still feel robbed that we would have to pay to see them in person or stay home and watch them on t.v. but it is still a big debate/arguement about tradition there.) Go find out about a great and fun tradition that we attend every year here! You might just want to show up next year to join in the fun. All are welcome to join me since we go party at a friend's house that is located just a 1/2 block from where they march down to! Leave comments on what you think.
